This is a very common question, we get asked.
There are many composite doors on house that at one time would looked like a premium door. Composite doors have been very popular particularly as a statement front door.
They look modern, are hardwearing and available in different styles and colours. They can make the look of any house more impressive.
But over time, the homeowner may fancy a change or simply wants another coloured door, what do you do?
UPVC spraying can bring your old or faded composite door back to life.
Otherwise the door will be expensive to replace. If the door still functions the obvious thing is if the owner is inclined is to wonder, can I paint my composite door?
Manufacturers say you shouldn’t paint a composite door!
Most composite door manufacturers claim composite doors are not meant to be re painted. They say they will never fade or change colour but this no help if you have outgrown the bright door that once looked modern and in vogue.
Don’t be put off, there is a way of painting a composite door.
1. Choose a Suitable Paint
As a leading UPVC painting company we understand when painting a composite door, you need to think bout the materials that have gone into creating a composite door.
Composite doors are made up of UPVC, metal and wood so a huge consideration has to be given to what paint will work best on the combination of materials.
This counts out the normal paint that you would paint wooden doors with.
2. Preparation of the Door
The door should be primed firstly just like you would do to paint any wooden door. You should also sand paper down any rough surfaces. When we are spray painting anything the preparation is the most important thing to do. We spend time and make sure everything else that is not to be painted is covered and taped off. You will need to do this also if you are going to traditionally paint with brushes.
3. Applying Paint
We would always recommend 2 layers of paint. As with painting a uPVC door we recommend to spray paint a composite door. The reason for this is it gives a better finish and you do not need to worry about brush strokes or even amounts of paint.
Our specialist paint that we use is an industrial strength 2 pack coating. Once fully cured it gives a very tough, durable and flexible finish.
It also contains an additive providing UV protection. Available in satin or matt it leaves a flawless factory finish. We give a 10 year guarantee on it against peeling and flaking and 5 years against excessive fading.
Many people are not confident to paint their composite doors themselves because there are so many specialist things to consider like choosing the right paint, preparing correctly and getting that
fantastic finish that we all want when painting.
Choosing us at Midland UPVC Coatings Ltd takes that worry away and guarantees excellent UPVC painting every time.
